He was appointed as a member of the board during the 28th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU) held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, January 30-31.

This was a sequel to his election as a board member during the 30th Ordinary Session of the AU Executive Council (Foreign Ministers) of January 25-27, 2017.

A statement from the Office of the Attorney General and Department of Justice said Tuta is serving his second term, having been first elected in January, 2015.

During his first term as a board member, he was the rapporteur. Members are elected for a two-year-term and are eligible for re-election only once.

They serve on part-time basis in their individual capacity. He becomes the second Kenyan to serve on the board, after Ms Dorothy Angote, former Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, who served on the board between 2009 and 2012.

Tuta has 20 years’ post-qualification legal experience, and has previously worked with the Kenya Anti-Corruption Authority, Office of the President, Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission, the former Ministry of Justice and National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs.

He is currently the Focal Point for the review of Kenya’s implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption, among other national assignments.

He served as the Joint Secretary, Task Force on the Review of the Legal, Policy and Institutional Framework for Fighting Corruption in Kenya (2015).

Tuta is also an Advocate of the High Court, a Commissioner for Oaths, and a Notary Public.

He is a member of several professional associations including the Law Society of Kenya; the East African Law Society; the Commonwealth Association of Legislative Counsel, and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association.
