“KPL Assistant Referee Aden Marwa Range has been selected to officiate at the 2018 FIFA World Cup which will be played in Russia from 14 June to 15 July,” the Kenya Premier League announced via its Twitter handle @TheOfficialKPL.

Marwa will be the assistant referee in what will be another high profile outing for him after the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) held in Morocco in January, where he served as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

The 41-year-old is the only Kenyan football official to be involved in any football competition organized under the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), having featured in the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

He was also named as a reserve official at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The match official has served as a FIFA referee since 2011.

Aden Marwa is a trained High School teacher. He teaches mathematics and chemistry at Komotobo Secondary school in Migori County. Marwa’s journey in referring started after being discovered by the now retired referee GMT Otieno a few years ago.

“I am so happy to see Marwa succeed, I am the one who discovered him years back. I am so proud to see him grow and returning to officiate in the worlds iconic tournament,” Otieno is quoted by Capital Sport.
