The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has said that more than 1,600 people have lost life on Kenyan roads in the past six months.
The number, according to NTSA shot up compared to last year where at the same period, 1,499 people died.
The data released by NTSA also indicate that this year's figure was 5.7 percent higher than the previous year.
The number of those injured has also increased by 1,537 to 7,160.
Of these, 2,606 sustained serious injuries while 2,969 sustained minor injuries.
The report further indicated that 615 pedestrians died and 584 sustained serious injuries.
41 cyclists and 321 motorbike riders also sustained serious injuries.
NTSA Director General Francis Meja blamed incidents to drunk driving, over-speeding and dangerous overtaking.
He called on both pedestrians, passengers, drivers and cyclists to be careful while on the road.
