Preparations for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia are on course after Japheth Kemei was named the team’s head coach.
Kemei, who last year won the SOYA Coach of the Year, will lead the team in the games, which will be held from April 4 to 15.
Joseph Ochieng, who is currently the AK Nyanza North chairman, will be the team manager at the games.
Other officials who will take charge of the team will be named today, Tuesday, after a planned meeting with other officials.
According to AK senior vice president Paul Mutwii, who is also the in charge of competitions, there is a stiff competition for the available slots in the team.
“Competition for places in both teams for Gold Coast and Valencia is stiff but we want to settle for the best,” said Mutwii.
He added: “We want to retain both titles in Valencia as well as recapture men’s marathon title in Gold Coast,”
Kenya has been performing well in the competitions and won 23 medals at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games - 10 gold, 10 silver and three bronze to top the athletics medal standings.
Trials for the Commonwealth Games will be held on March 8 and 10 in Nairobi.
