Prior to announcing plans to set up an integrated leather processing zone on 500 acres of land in Kinanie Athi River in Machakos County, Industrialization CS Adan Mohammed is heading the team that includes officials from Export Processing Zones Authority and Kenyan Members of Parliament.

“The Kenyan government is looking to create jobs in the industry that will seek to employ about 1.5 million people both directly and indirectly in Turkey,” said Mohammed.
Earlier last year Mr Mohammed said the government would spare no effort to gain strength the local leather industry. “The leather development team will comb out avenues to make for smooth operations in the demand and supply of leather products that are required by Kenyan consumers such as Kenya Defence Forces and National Police Service.
