Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has said Kenya needs fresh leaders for the country to move forward.
Mutua said there has for decades been colonial leadership in the country who have done great work by setting good foundation to the nation.
"We need a paradysm shift in leadership, there has been a pre-colonial leadership in the country for ages," said Mutua.
He spoke when he launched bursary program for students in colleges and universities from Machakos County in Mavoko, Machakos County on Monday.
Mutua said the Founder Kenyan President Mzee Jommo Kenyatta, late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, former presidents Daniel Moi and Mwai Kibaki served under pre-independence and did good job of laying the country's foundation.
"We have had leadership that have been in pre-independence, we cannot keep setting foundation for ever," Mutua said.
He said Moi served under old Law and Kibaki laid the new constitution's foundation.
Mutua said Deputy President William Ruto served in pretty colonial in Y2K hence is not fresh in leadership.
He said the country can only move forward if it has different people in leadership.
"Wamefanya Kazi yao, sasa waache watu wengine wapeleke nchi mbele, [They have done their part, they should now let other people take the country forward," he said.
Mutua said its now time for the country to have democracy and citizens to have money in their pockets.
"This is the reason why in 2022 I will be in the ballot rallying for presidency and God willing, I will be the Kenya's fifth president, " added he.
"Our youth will not be running away from Kenya to look for opportunities in the diaspora. The time has come for you to say you have done your work," he concluded.
2040 students from the county's eight sub counties benefited from the bursary. 680 for degree, 680 diploma and 680 certificates.
