Speaking during the opening of a Health for All Campaign Workshop at a Nakuru hotel on Tuesday, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) lecturer, Prof Mary Abukutsa, cautioned Kenyans against consuming too much processed food products.

“We eat too much of wrong foods like sugar and fats that promote obesity and predispose us to major poor health conditions. The rate of obesity among Kenyans is on the rise and this condition is a health risk,’’ said Prof Abukutsa.

Abukutsa said that the antioxidant properties of traditional foods can provide immunity to cancer and diabetes diseases.

She advised Kenyans especially the youths in urban areas to adopt the consumption of African leafy vegetables in big quantities which contain rich nutrition and medicinal values.

The two day workshop was organised by Management Sciences for Health and focuses on health infrastructure, human resources for health and financing.
