Kenyans on Twitter have refused to refer to NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga as the ‘Joshua’ who will take the country to Canaan, instead using one of his promises to coin a new nickname. Raila’s promise to legalize chang’aa has come to haunt him, with many questioning how a Biblical Joshua can push for the consumption of illegal liquor. Kenyans online are now calling Raila ‘Baba Pima’, with many making fun of the new nickname.

Deputy President William Ruto has also called the former prime minister a ‘fake Joshua’, arguing that a true Christian cannot ask people to take chang’aa.

“Why would someone who wants 2 lead a nation whose highest population is made up of young guys talk of legalizing changaa? Hatutaki #BabaPima," wrote Pauline Njoroge on Twitter.

Others linked Raila’s private business, the Kisumu Molasses plant, to the move to legalize chang’aa.

“Molasses plant in Kisumu is the reason Raila want Changaa legalized! Business for him!” tweeted Joe Muhahami.

“The Biblical Joshua delivered people to a land of milk and honey, whereas Raila’s promised land is that of Chang’aa and Busaa. #BabaPima," said Mary Kigwa.

Some KOT members wondered why Raila would support alcohol that kills the youth and blinds them.

“How can you support Alcohol that kills people?,” asked Delick Mecha.
