Lawrence Cherono is this year’s men’s TCS Amsterdam Marathon 2017 winner, having broken the course record set last year .The record was set by a Kenyan, Daniel Wanjiru in last year’s marathon.

The brilliant performance saw the Kenyan team carry the top three positions.

Cherono won the race in 2:05:09 with Nobert Kigen hot on his heels in a time of 2:05:13. The third Kenyan, Abraham Kiptum clocked  2:05:26

In the Men’s category five athletes ran the marathon under 2:06 making TCS Amsterdam Marathon 2017 one of the fastest marathons in the world.

Cherono broke away in the 37km mark having planned the attack with about five kilometers left and managed to break Daniel Wanjiru’s time by being 12 seconds.

Ethiopia’s national Tadelech Bekele won the women’s category in 2:21:54, ahead of Kenya’s Gladys Chesir who clocked in 2:24:51. Another Ethiopian, Azmera Abreha, came in third in 2:25:23.

In the Sofia Marathon in Bulgaria, another Kenyan Barmao Kiprono crossed the line first in 2:14:49 ahead of Ahmed Nasef from Morocco who finished in 2:17:29 while Ugandan Vitalis Kwemoi came in third having clocked 2:19:43.
