Kenyans residing in diaspora have backed the move by the National Super Alliance (Nasa) to have the August 8 presidential election results announced at the constituency level by Returning Officers, be final.
Kenyans in diaspora led by Raila Odinga’s presidential campaign liaison committee co-chairman, Joseph Nyarango, commended the court for making the verdict saying this will prevent rigging of votes from taking place.
“We congratulate the High Court judges Weldon Korir, Aggrey Muchelule and Enoch Chacha Mwita who declared null and void, the law that required presidential election results to be subjected to alterations at the national tallying centre,” said Nyarango.
“It should also be remembered that, the tallying of votes at the constituency level will allow Kenyan voters to own the process and witness how their votes are counted rather than leaving the crucial task to the top IEBC officials,” he added.
He asked the IEBC commissioners to explain their intentions for challenging the court’s ruling.
“We now challenge Wafula Chebukati, the IEBC boss and his team to come clean on their motives for challenging the ruling made by the three judges.”
Nasa has recently been warning the IEBC against changing the clause, to see the chairman, Wafula Chebukati, to provide final figures of the presidential results from the Constituency level.
