As we exercise our democratic right to choose the leader of the country, let us be keen not to destroy this nation for the benefit of selfish politicians. In the past, politicians have misused the youths to kill innocent people and destroy property. We must not let this happen again. The memories of 2007/08 are very fresh in our minds. The lives of more than 1,300 innocent people were lost and at least 600,000 were displaced from their homes.Kenya is bigger than any single politician. No person should lose his or life for the sake anyone’s political ambitions. Peace needs to prevail. Kenya will be there after tomorrow’s fresh presidential election. As the police have assured, the lives and property of people who will turn up to vote will be protected. And so will be those of the Kenyans who will choose not to vote. Isn’t that what democracy is all about — the freedom to choose? We have seen in the recent times that politicians from two opposing sides can sit together and share a meal when their supporters exchange blows when they meet. Why not learn from the leaders? We can disagree politically, but we must not forget that we are brothers and sisters in this country. There is a lot that unites us as Kenyans than the few things that set us apart.
