Speaking at a press conference at a Mombasa hotel, Mr Omar said that he resigned from Wiper as the Secretary General a long time ago.

Mr Omar said that he will challenge Joho's win on the gubernatorial seat for Mombasa Governor citing irregularities during vote counting and tallying.

“Wiper leadership is weak, its meek, unfocused, you don't know whether Kalonzo is supporting me or Joho, You don't know what he stands for.”

“You do realize immediately after the elections I have been fairly absent from the political scene… I had resigned indeed from Wiper, but I hardly had to resign now through action. So I was doing nothing all of you might have realized,” said the former secretary general.

Here are some reactions of Kenyans after Hassan Omar's statements:

@hon_momanyi: Why was wiper not weak when Hassan Omar was its Sec Gen?Does the party become weak when Kenyan politicians quit?

@KinyanBoy Hassan Omar has said Wiper leadership was weak, he must have forgotten he was the Sec Gen & Wiper made him the Senator. Selective amnesia
