Kenyans were sent into a frenzy on Saturday, after Kenya’s Michael Olunga scored a hat trick in a Laliga match.
The lanky forwards came in as a substitute and scored thrice, helping his Girona team see off a wasted Las Palmas team 6-0.
Olunga also assisted a goal for his teammate in what was a dream match for the former Gor Mahia star.
Kenyans took to their social media pages to congratulate Olunga, who is in his first season in Spain.
By scoring the three goals, he becomes the first Kenyan and player to score a hat trick for Girona in the Spanish Laliga topflight.
Led by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga, Kenyans were quick to congratulate the forward.
“Congratulations Michael Olunga for making history as the first Kenyan footballer to score a goal in the Spanish La Liga; and the first player to score a hat trick for Girona FC in the Spanish top league. Continue flying the #MagicalKenya flag high,” wrote President Kenyatta on his Facebook page.
“Michael Olunga becomes the first Luo to score a hat-trick in Laliga” wrote Gordon Ouya.
“Michael Olunga becomes the first Kenyan to score in #LaLiga and the first Girona player to score a hatrick EVER! Congrats.” Wrote Silale Lemuya.
