[Photo/ SGRheadoffice]Thousands of Kenyans online have taken to social media to express their reactions after President Uhuru Kenyatta launched the much-anticipated Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) a week ago. A good number have taken advantage of the cheap one-way ticket of Sh700 to travel between Nairobi and Mombasa, while others can’t wait to ride on the SGR train. Those who work in the tourism and hospitality industry are excited that the project will revive fortunes at the Coast, with many Kenyans willing to travel to Mombasa more. “Tuonje SGR Train Pamoja.Mpango Safi Sana Ya Weekendi na Familia au Mabesthe!Mombasa 3 Days@ Ksh.13,500/-UNLIMITED drinks both ALCOHOLIC&SOFT,” tweeted Bonfire Adventures, who take nature enthusiasts to places of fun. NTV sports journalist @seancardo said: “It's even easier to get to Diani from Nairobi with the new SGR via Mombasa! Enjoy a great atmosphere at @40beachbar barefoot!”Jumbo Trekk, another tourism promoter, offered deals to those willing to take advantage of the SGR to travel to the Coast in record time and at an affordable price. “#SGR is here and what a nice way to escape to Mombasa from Nairobi with these HOT deals.” Other users predicted that the project will greatly improve the economy of the country, something that many analysts agree on.“THE GRAND SGR project will improve the country's economy,” tweeted @LordTanui. Because of the timely completion of the historic project and the challenges that had to be overcome, other Kenyans praised President Uhuru Kenyatta for delivering the promise ahead of time, vowing to back his re-election bid. “Vote @UKenyatta as an appreciation of constructing the SGR as @RailaOdinga Constructed invisible infrastructures during his Nusu Mkate era,” said @africarahman. “We've witnessed tremendous improvements in our infrastructure since @UKenyatta came to power eg the SGR,” added Lord Tanui. Those who reviewed it said the service was excellent. “#SGR review. Was a great trip for the nostalgia. Economy experience was pretty decent. Still no priority boarding for Elderly, mums with kids,” wrote Melissa Ondori.
