A spat orchestrated by ex-presidential candidate Nazlin Umar has ignited a sharp reaction among social media users as the victim, DP William Ruto blocked her on twitter.
Prior to the dramatic exchanges, Nazlin, who at one time was linked to a romantic relationship with Majority Leader Aden Duale, accused Ruto of sugar smuggling business.
But on social media moments after she revealed Ruto's 'punishment', Kenyans aired their views on the matter even as Ms. Umar called for protection by the state.
Linah Klein said: "DP Ruto blocks everyone on social media who opposes or exposes him. That has become his habit."
Another user, Charles Aswani said: "Keep on exposing the truth. Even if he blocks you, he will not stop this movement."
But some came into Ruto's defense accusing Ms Umar of thriving in vitriol at the time the country is undergoing reconciliation.
"You have too much negative vibe. I think you are self cannibalising at the moment. A psychiatrist can do you good," said Richard Kemoi.
The government has unleashed a crackdown that has since led to seizing of over 5,000 bags of contraband sugar across the country.
