Kenyans on social media sharply differed on the decision by President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to apologise to each other over traditional political differences.

In a morning prayer at Nairobi, Uhuru caused a stir when he openly sanctioned Raila to step on the stage after which the two hugged and asked for forgiveness.

"My brother Raila, I have done a lot of things to you, kindly I apologise and please forgive me," said Uhuru.

And on various social media platforms, a number of Kenyans hailed the two with some dismissing the move.

"This is a good indication and Kenyans should replicate it to their neighbours," said Ruth Nyaboke in Borabu Watchtower WhatsApp group.

Another user, Diana Kemunto said: "We all need to forget the past and move on. The leaders have demonstrated that to all of us."

But some others condemned the move with the issue of Miguna Miguna arising following the unusual hug.

"These are mere theatrics which we can't welcome. They are hugging yet they have blocked Miguna Miguna from landing," said Edwin Onyiego in Kitutu Masaba forum.

Another user, Sylvia Chonde said: "This is hypocrisy. They should have done that before our people died over elections."
