The ministry's Twitter handle @InteriorKE says that the injured officer has been airlifted to Nairobi for treatment.

However, Al Jazeera claims to have independently confirmed that indeed the 20 officers were killed in the ambush that happened late Monday night in the area.

Earlier, government spokesman's Twitter handle @PSCU_Digital tweeted that the President had issued a condolence message to the affected families but confusion reigned after the confirmation by @InteriorKE that only one officer had been injured.
