According to Bahati lawmaker Kimani Ngunjiri, the nation is now ready to look into the proposals made by the opposition block, National Super Alliance (NASA), with regards to its push for constitutional changes.

Speaking on Radio Jambo Tuesday evening, citing the calm that has prevailed following the March 9 truce between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga, Ngunjiri said the nation is likely to reach a consensus on the issue.

This is the right time to look into the constitutional change proposal as the nation is calmer following the truce),'' said the lawmaker.

He, however, faulted opposition leader Raila Odinga's calls for a referendum, noting that some of the proposals he has made can be realized through easier and cheaper means.

He further threw his weight behind Deputy President William Ruto, ruling out Odinga's quarters' push for the expansion of the executive, but observed that the other proposals could be considered.

Some of these proposals do not need a referendum to be realized but can be looked into using other means. However, we cannot change the constitution to satisfy a few leaders or communities as the others will make a similar demand too),'' he added.

Odinga has since claimed that the referendum was one of the issues jointly agreed between him and President Uhuru Kenyatta before the truce.
