Kenyans took to social media after it emerged that the government had shut down a number of local media outlets.

Citizen, KTN and NTV have been disabled on all free to air platforms.

Kenyans took to social media condemning the act.

This is after the government warned media houses against broadcasting the NASA swearing-in event.

Here are some of the reactions.

@tamurai_inc Citizen TV and Radio,NTV have been switched off. The worse thing is we living on the digital era where streaming is possibleThe government should get their act in orderI wounder who are advising.

@Chifu_tamurai Switching of Citizen TV and Radio together with NTV is a big mistake. We living in a communication era with so much options#RailaSwearingIn #PressPass

@ltsmutai This is the height of dictatorship. Moi fever is back. Citizen tv and radio stations shut down is a clear sign of this. I am sick. Raila aingie State House. #RailaSwearingIn

@nyamujeremy Citizen TV and Radio and NTV being shut down by the communication authority is nothing to be celebrated by anyone #NASAOathDay #NASASwearingIn

@JBOhaga It's official, if you're a broadcast station and your free to air signals are still up, then it means that nobody takes you seriously. It's time to reconsider your purpose coz the #Shutdown has separated the wheat from the chaff. Citizen TV and radio.

@sammyimbega How is switching off Citizen TV and Radio by the govt following the law! Now the Media houses you know, next time these govt officials need you to air their greedy agendas just give them blackout & concentrate on what Kenyans want to see

@DouglasKatuto Hope they will not switch twitter off too after switching Citizen TV and radio off

@XzylentMedia After switching off Citizen TV and radio, NTV and now @KTNNews, the only option is to walk to uhurupark and witness this big day firsthand.
