Kenyan athletes dominated this year's Singapore Standard Chartered Marathon held on Sunday,clinching the top 5 positions in both male and female races.
In the men's race,Cosmas Kimutai outdid his competitors to cross the finish line first clocking 2:22:48 and secured the $50,000 cash prize apart from bringing the tittle home.
Second came compatriot Justus Kimutai who finished after 2:23:07 followed by Paul Matheka,also from Kenya (2:23:25).
In position four and five were Mark Kiptoo and Kennedy Lilan respectively.
In the women category,Pamela Rotich recorded the fastest win in Singapore since 2012 clocking 2:38:31.This,however,was 10 seconds shy compared to the record she set after winning in Daegu earlier in the year.
Fellow Kenyans Rebecca Kangongo and Peninah Arusei were second and third respectively clocking 2:38:48 and 2:29:07 in that order with Rebecca Korir and Peninah Kigen finishing fourth and fifth.
The competition brought together 48,400 participants,up from the initial 6000,drawn from 126 different countries,with Singapore dominating the games by presenting 52% of its own to take part.
Non-Singaporeans constituted the remaining 48%
