Losing a loved one is always had to comprehend and it leaves relatives and friends devastated. It is at this trying moment that one needs support to overcome the situation.
However, Kenyans have adopted a worrying behaviour that is completely unnecessary and uncalled for.
Heckling, booing and behaving inappropriately has been the order of the day. Vivid past events include the funeral services of both the late Fidel Castro Odinga, the son of the former prime minister Raila Odinga and the late Boniface Aggrey Okello, a television actor and radio presenter.
At Fidel's funeral service held at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology on January 10, 2015, Raychelle Omamo was heckled while reading out the message from the president.
The then minister for Lands and Housing, Charity Ngilu, was also heckled when giving her condolence message.
At Bokello's funeral service held at Masogo Secondary School in Kisumu county on November 7, 2015, Gor Mahia fans invaded the speech protocol and went ahead to carry the casket and run around with it.
Most recently, a man hang on the helicopter carrying the remains of Jacob Juma in Bungoma County on Friday 13, 2016 and was badly injured when he jumped off the helicopter.
All these are examples of behaviours that should be condemned with the strongest words possible.
Kenyans should also learn to observe solemnity in funerals as the functions are always carried out to give last respects on the dead person.
Leaders should also act as role models and avoid politicising funeral ceremonies.
