Low voter turnout during the repeat of presidential poll does not mean the region is a NASA stronghold, Lamu East legislator Athman Shariff has said.

According to the MP, voters who did not turn up to vote are not NASA supporters.

“People should stop making assumptions that those who didn't vote are for NASA. People have personal reasons for not turning up. Also, there were challenges of poor means of transport due to bad weather and insecurity issues,” said the lawmaker.

He further said residents will not be part of a national resistance movement formed by NASA.

“Lamu residents still have faith in Jubilee. The county has benefited from development initiated by the national government under the leadership of Uhuru and DP William Ruto,” he added.

He faulted NASA leaders led by Raila Odinga for ignoring Lamu when they were in power, unlike Jubilee regime, which has helped the people of Lamu.
