In 2016, Kenya's economy generated 800,000 new jobs of which 85.6 thousand were in the formal sector while 747.3 thousand were in the informal sector according to Kenya National Bureau of Statistics.

On Wednesday, Kenyans shared their opinions following a survey showing that economy under the Jubilee government has added over 800,000 jobs in Kenya. M any questioned about that number while others wondered on the quality of jobs created.

According to the survey, in the private sector, employment increased from 1.76 million people in 2015 to 3.3 million in 2016. In the public sector employment increased from 718.4 thousand people in 2015 to 737.1 thousand in 2016.

Mark Iyadi from Universite de Kinshasa asked tough questions in his argument. 'In 2016 Karuturi Flowers retrenched 2,600, Posta Kenya 2000, Telkom Kenya 1,600, East African Portland 1,000, Kenya Flouspur retrenched 700, Sameer retrenched 600, Kenya Aiways retrenched 600, Equity Bank retrenched 400, Stanchart Bank 300, Nation retrenched, Citizen retrenched plus many others. This are entities across the various sectors of the Economy.'

'Na hizi 800,000 jobs ziko wapi i apply just one of them? kuuliza tu,' he added.

'We don't want to question the government where the jobs have been created, but can they tell Kenyans how many jobs were lost last year and how many companies closed shops? Kenyans are not blind,' Daktari Lomboto who is self employed said.
