Alcoholic drinks, cigarettes and loud music have been cited as major contributors of infections to the ear, nose and throat.
This is according to the Kenya Ear, Nose and Throat Society which is now advocating for change in habits of Kenyans in order to avert such infections.
Speaking in Nakuru during the 26th annual scientific conference, the chair of the society Samuel Nyagah said there is need for Kenyans to change their habits.
“We are advocating for people to do the right things, to reduce amount of alcohol, smoking and stop listening to loud music because they can develop diseases that will affect them,” he said.
Sentiments echoed by scientific committee secretary Wahome Karanja.
“Our country has about 80 ENT surgeons working across the country but only close to a half of the number work in Nairobi. ENT diseases contribute to a huge population that needs services hence there is need for more ENT doctors,” he said.
