Kiambu County Women Representative Hannah Nyokabi has lauded the recent steps taken by the government to improve Medicare in the country.
Nyokabi has said that the government is not only making medical care affordable to most Kenyans, but also ensuring that people can be treated in local hospitals as opposed to flying abroad.
Speaking in Eldoret on Friday during the opening of privately owned Mediheal Hospital, Eldoret branch, Nyokabi also urged Kenyans to apply for NHIF insurance schemes, which she said plays a big deal in clearing hospital bills.
“Let everyone have an affordable health insurance like NHIF and we will no longer have to hold fundraisers to pay hospital bills,” said Nyokabi.
She also observed that the country has also been able to import expertise and medical equipment that will ensure that people can be treated locally at a much lower cost.
“Majority of diseases that we go to India to seek treatment for are being treated in local private hospitals at the same cost as in India, so you do not have to incur extra costs flying abroad, you just need a health insurance,” she added.
