Time has come for the people of Kenya to turn out in large numbers and vote for the presidential candidate they trust most to take the country to prosperity. The choice the people made on August 8 was loud and clear, but the Supreme Court used procedural technicalities to nullify President Uhuru Kenyatta’s big win — by more than 1.4 million votes. Since that court decision about two months ago, many hurdles have been placed in the way, intending to deny the people the right to exercise their democratic choice through the ballot. All those cases have now been defeated. The extended electioneering period has seen the economy suffer and ordinary Kenyans have watched as jobs and income-earning opportunities disappear in the past few days. It is time to move forward by showing up very early at the polling station to vote and take the country forward. As a democracy, Kenya’s security agencies have said they will protect the rights of those who will vote and the few Kenyans who may decide not to cast their ballots. This is a free country. The law allows you to do what you want, as long as you don’t infringe on the rights of others. The citizens have a chance to respond to politicians who want to hold the country at ransom, for their own selfish needs. It is time for the people to prove that their power is supreme. Turning up to vote tomorrow is taking the country forward.
