Kenyans have over the years perfected the art of athletics. They have performed beyond expectations and become worldbeaters.
They have won at the highest levels and set records that have stood for years. One other thing that has stood out for Kenyans is the ability to adjust to certain conditions and environments while running.
some shocked the world when they ran bare feet but still managed to win.
Here is a list of some of them;
1. Nyandika Maiyoro
Born in 1931 at Kiogoro in the current Kisii County, Nyandika is one of the pioneers of Kenyan athletics despite little recognition at the global arena.
At Indian Ocean games in Madagascar (1953), Maiyoro could join 3000 meters race late and eventually beat all other athletes while running without shoes. In 1954 he finished fourth in commonwealth games and would get 6th position in Olympic games of 1960.
2. Kipchoge KeinoOne of the best athletes to ever come out of Kenya, Kip Keino did great things on the track during his years.
He will be remembered when he once almost late for his own race and had to (literally) run to get there, then won a gold medal anyway
3. Faith Kipyegon Chepngetich
In 2011, Chepngetich ran barefoot and won in the junior category in games held in Punta Umbria, Spain on March 20, 2011.
The then class 8 pupil weighed 40 kilograms.
