Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has called for the amendment of the constitution to bar Kenyans with dual citizenship from being appointed to public office. While referring to a recent incident in which IEBC Commissioner Roslyne Akombe resigned, Mandago said loyalty of individuals with dual citizenship is always in doubt.Akombe holds the Kenyan and United States (US) citizenship. She resigned on Thursday while on a trip to Dubai to inspect Presidential ballot papers printing exercise where she fled to the US."We should never give sensitive jobs in this country to people with more than one passport and dual citizenship because they might cause problems here and run to another country like what Akombe did," Mandago said."It's time we amended our laws and make it clear that people with dual citizenship should not serve in public service of Republic of Kenya because their loyalty is in doubt," he added. The Kenyan constitution that was promulgated in 2010 allows for dual citizenship and does not bar such individuals from being appointed into public service.
