Deputy President William Ruto has praised Kenyans for upholding peace during and after the last General Election.
Ruto said the move by Kenyans to embrace peace and tolerate each others divergent views demonstrated that the country’s democracy has matured.
He said the promotion of peace among diverse ethnic communities and religious groups in the country show the essence of unity among Kenyans.
The Deputy President, at the same time, urged Christians to remain steadfast and continue to pray for peace and unity of the country.
Ruto expressed gratitude to religious leaders for their prayers, love and for ensuring sustainable peace in the country.
The Deputy President noted that prayers were key to solving problems, saying he was optimistic that God would continue to keep the country together as the Government implements its development agenda.
Speaking at the Faith Evangelists Ministries (FEM) Family Church in Karen, Nairobi, on Sunday, Ruto said the country was peaceful because Kenyans were prayerful.
“As a country we must be united and hope for a better future. It is our prayer that God is going to give us a favour this year. We thank Christians for praying for this country and we don’t take it for granted,” said Ruto.
Ruto who was accompanied by his wife, Rachel, said there was the need for Christians to show compassion and engage in constant prayers to help maintain peace.
The Deputy President wished Kenyans God’s blessings and prosperity, urging them to continue to coexist peacefully with one another.
He asked Kenyans to continue supporting the Government as it seeks to implement policies and programmes that will uplift their living standards.
Bishop Teresia Wairimu told Christians to demonstrate love to their neighbors, promote peaceful coexistence and pray for the country.
“As a country, we went through hard times last year because of elections. But because of our prayers, we thank God for the peace and unity we are enjoying now,” said Bishop Wairimu.
Bishop Wairimu, also expressed concern over increased cases of road accidents, urging motorists to be careful on the road and drive with caution so as to avoid accidents and loss of lives, which have been on the rise
She urged drivers to put the lives of Kenyans first and observe traffic rules to avert unnecessary accidents.
