Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has hailed what he termed as a growing political democracy in the country.

The governor pointed out that recent general elections followed by the repeat presidential poll was a clear indication that the country's political democracy had matured.

Speaking in Eldoret on Wednesday, Mandago said with the two successful elections this year, it was just a matter of time before other countries came to Kenya to benchmark on political maturity.

"We have shown the rest of the world that our democracy has come of age as Kenya now becomes the first country in Africa where there have been two Presidential elections conducted peacefully," Mandago said.

"...with this great achievement, I know many African countries will be coming to benchmark on our political maturity, political democracy and willingness to respect the rule of law," he added.

This year's general elections will be remembered in the country's history after Supreme Court, for the first time, nullified the August 8 presidential election results and ordered a fresh poll.

The Supreme Court judges said there were irregularities and illegalities in the petitioned poll.
