Opposition leader Raila Odinga spoke for the first time about the omission of prominent people from the list of heroes by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Mashujaa Day.
On Thursday last week, Uhuru conspicuously omitted the names of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Raila Odinga, and Tom Mboya from his long list of heroes despite the trio contributing immensely towards the country’s history.
And Monday, Raila who was addressing his supporters at Nyacheki in Kisii County termed the incident a ‘non-issue’, insisting that the history of Kenya would remain in the hearts of Kenyans and that could not be erased.
“Sometimes I wonder that someone fears the history of this nation to an extent that he cannot mention those being celebrated. To me that sounds awkward and cowardly because it’s not a political contest,“ he said, without making direct reference to the President.
“The history of this nation cannot be erased because it will always remain close to our hearts. A mention of someone on the podium is a non-issue because as Kenyans, we have some other more pressing issues,” he added.
Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire hit out at the President for the alleged omission of multiparty democracy fighter the late George Anyona terming it an ‘abuse’ to the Abagusii people.
