Kenya's national team representatives in Cricket are the only ones to have ever made an appearance at the semi-finals of a major tournament.
They achieved the feat when they went all the way to the semis of the 2003 Cricket World Cup before bowing out at the hands of India. It is a proud record held by the representatives of the discipline even though there have been concerns about the disbandment of the body in charge in the recent past.No other team has ever gone that far with both Volleyball and Hockey missing out at Whiskers. With Hockey now developing from the grassroots level and football also under sound management and on the threshold, perhaps there will be another representative in the near future. It has been 15 good years since that last semi-final appearance and another go to emulate or surpass the milestone will be a welcome to many fans countrywide.
The loss to former Champions and current heavyweights India by 91 runs on the 20th of March now seems a distant memory. Perhaps a repeat of the same feat will be a great thing.
South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the West Indies are the current rulers of the Cricket Arena.
It is a pity especially considering Kenya was by far greater than most of them all.
Their walk to the semis involved losing to South Africa in the opening match in Cape down before being given a walkover against Oceania outsiders New Zealand who forfeited the match citing security concerns in Nairobi.
They also defeated Sri Lanka by 53 runs before tasting defeat against the West Indies having seen off a sorry Bangladeshi side.
It is everyone's hope that the country has another representative at such a level in an intercontinental competition or tournament.
