Kenya’s Shujaa lost to South Africa 17-0, in the Main Cup quarters in the just concluded Sydney Championships.
The Kenyan team finished second in Pool B at the third round of the HSBC Sevens World Series played at the Allianz Arena.
The team put a spirited fight against the South Africans, but came short as they lost heavily to one of the tournament’s favorites.
Shujaa had a memorable Day 2 on Saturday after recovering from a 7-5 loss to Argentina in the opening match on Friday to beat France 17-14 and wrap it up with a 26-12 victory over Wales.
Willy Ambaka, Dan Sikuta and Eden Agero were all influential in the team’s victory in the groups, and the team will be proud of their scores.
In their match against South Africa, it took two minutes for the Southerners to get their hands on the ball but when they did, Seabelo Senatla found space in the left corner to score.
Senatla replicated his opening try with another five pointer in the exact same spot one minute later, with Shujaa unable to penetrate a strong South African defensive line for the remainder of the first half.
Timothy Agaba was next to cross for the Blitzboks - the final scoring act of the match - securing a win built on defence.
