Kenya's street children soccer team is set to join other street children in a tournament to be held in Russia which is supposed to run from 10 to 24 May.
The street children seven-aside soccer tournament to be held ahead of FIFA tournament will comprise different teams drawn from other 24 countries in the world.
Kenya will be represented by street children selected from Glad's house orphanage in Mombasa county.
The team which is currently preparing for the tournament will include children picked from the streets of Mombasa and accommodated at the orphanage. The tournament is expected to offer a platform upon which street children will interact and showcase their talents.
According to the founder of Glad house Orphanage, Freddy Achola, the tournament will basically bring to awareness the wrong perceptions the society has been having about street children and the mistreatment they have always gone through.
"The aim of the game is to challenge the negative perceptions and treatment of street children especially the issue of being rounded up and arrested by the police," said Achola during an interview.
The team is expected to perform better than how it performed in Rio Olympic games where it managed to win a single match out of four matches.
Besides Kenya, other countries to take part in the global seven-aside tournament includes Philippines, Canada, Liberia, Mexico, India among others.
