Kenya was comprehensively beaten on Sunday to both the men and women’s marathon, to cap of what was a disappointing outing for the country.
The team of 165 athletes bagged 17 medals in total, managing only 4 gold medals, seven silver medals, and six bronze medals.
This was a dismal performance compared to the past events, where the team performed exceptionally well. In Scotland in 2014, team Kenya garnered 27 medals, with nine of them being gold, 10 silver, and eight bronze medals, and finished 9th overall.
The 2010 event in India was even a much better event for team Kenya, where the team collected 29 medals in total.
Ugandans beat Kenyan in long and middle distance races, events that have over the years been dominated by Kenyans.
Australia finished top of the medal pile with 198 medals, followed by England, India, Canada and New Zealand.
