First Lady Margret Kenyatta has delivered the 24th mobile clinic under her “Beyond Zero Campaign” to Kisumu County.
The delivery came with a call to the fishermen along Lake Victoria Basin to stop risky behaviours that can lead to the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Kenyatta said fishmongers must now change their lifestyles that has been a source of vulnerability to the epidemicKenyatta asks L. Victoria fishmongers to avoid risqué behaviour.
She said the spread of the disease is a threat to the young generation who are born with the disease and left orphans at a tender age after their parents have died.
Kenyatta said the old people are now left with the burden of caring for the orphans as the scourge continue to wipe a generation.
She further urged the fishmongers to stop over reliance in Lake Victoria that has threatened the fish stock.
Kenyatta said even though fishing is the economic stay of the community living along Lake Victoria, there is need for fishermen to diversify to freeze the lake from overfishing.
Speaking at Otieno Oyoo High School where she handed over the mobile clinic to Governor Jack Ranguma on Friday, Kenyatta said women and girls must be given proper education.
Kenyatta lauded the girls’ percentage already in school in Nyanza region saying that the country can make better progress if women and girls receive the right education.
She said better education for the female folk will allow them to raise a healthy family and contribute towards the development of the country.
