President Uhuru Kenyatta has commissioned construction of the Thogoto-Gikambura-Mutarakwa Road.
The road which has two new dimensions from the initial project has been upgraded from class 'D' to class 'B' in the new classification of roads in the country. This makes it a major road and will connect with the new southern bypass at Thogoto.
Initially, the project was to cover the stretch between Thogoto and Mutarakwa but in the new design launched on Wednesday, the project will link Kwambira, Limuru Town, Banana and Ruaka. It will also cover the stretch between Tigoni - Kabuku - Ngecha.
Surprisingly, the president flagged off the project with a former area MP aspirant George Maara and not the seating MP John Kiragu.
And in what could be devolution commissioned to work, the president mandated Ndeiya MCA Nelson Munga to ensure youths in the area are employed to work in the construction.
The president had earlier in the day commissioned Theta Dam and the new look Gatundu Hospital in Gatundu. He also inspected Kiambu Hospital and commissioned the Ruaka - Banana - Tigoni - Limuru Road.
