President Uhuru Kenyatta has asserted his administration's commitment to transform the country's economy ahead of the 2017 general elections.
In a televised message broadcasted from State House, Mombasa, on new year's eve, the head of state expressed optimism of winning a second presidential term, pledging to complete projects inaugurated by his government in the first term.
“My reason for running is to complete the works that we have started with great energy and to ensure that this nation can continue to rise in the world," President Kenyatta said.
“Let me tell you what I see in my mind’s eye whenever I think of what we are trying to build: A Kenya that is industrialised and where a decent job is available to anyone qualified and seeking it," he added.
He further pledged to transform the education sector and to make the country more secure.
“We will be secure and an anchor for stability in a region that will have overcome its destructive conflicts," he affirmed.
