President Uhuru Kenyatta has today officially launched the Sh1 billion Nyalenda sewerage and drainage system project.

The project will employ 4,000 youths in the slums and give them income.

President Kenyatta said the project will be carried in all the slum areas like Nyalenda, Obunga, Manyatta and Nyawita among others.

The project will also include construction of six roads that will open up access to the Nyalenda slum.

The President said that they will establish 23 latrines, 23 police posts and put up 23 health centres to serve the Nyalenda community.

"This will also help create employment, not only for the youth in Nyalenda, but Kisumu County as well," said President Kenyatta.

Governor Jack Ranguma who was present called upon the youths who will work in the project to form Saccos and ensure they use for meaningful purpose the cash they will get from the project.

The Nyalenda sewage and drainage system project is similar to the one done in Kibera Constituency at a cost of Sh100 million.
