Mombasa Governor’s growing popularity has been attributed to his recent heightened political battles with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The ODM deputy leader, who is facing a host of allegations among them forgery of academic certificates, has had a bitter encounter with Kenyatta over coastal historic issues.
And the battle with the Head of State has seen him lose his security details in a number of occasions and on Monday; he accused the government over an attempted assassination.
‘I am told he is beatable by Omar Hassan and I believe so. He is a good man anyway and I think Uhuru has made him even more popular,” said Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who party is fielding Omar against Joho.
He added: ‘I have no problem campaigning for Omar and Raila Odinga campaigning for Joho. The people of Mombasa will make a decision,” said Kalonzo on Wednesday during an interview with Citizen TV.
Despite Wiper working closely with Joho’s ODM, Secretary General Omar Hassan has maintained that he will run against Joho.
Jubilee Party is also keen to capture the coastal city through businessman Suleiman Shahbal who has named veteran politician Anania Mwaboza as running mate.
