Thika residents may have to wait a little longer to enjoy a congestion-free Kenyatta Highway after a contractor was ordered to halt operations.

The contractor assigned to the part near Tuskys Chania Supermarket has been ordered to stop work via a court injunction.

This revelation was brought to light by Township Ward MCA Kennedy Mwangi Kentams. He said that one of the traders along this road had sued the contractor for inconveniencing his business as well as the manner he was executing his contract.

However, Kentams assured Thika residents that the matter had been presented to the county executive for the way forward.

He added that plans were underway to expand Karatina Road and construct another bridge near the Blue Post soon to ease traffic in and out of the CBD.

Kentams was speaking at the Thika Sub-County on Wednesday to the traders. He added that there were plans to increase the town lighting, especially from Thika school for the visually impaired, to the town centre to reduce cases of people being attacked at night.

He called on Thika police boss to look into cases of thugs attacking people along the road towards Blue Post Hotel.

"Of late, there have been numerous reports of attacks at the Blue Post area and some other spots in the town," he said.

On the El Niño rains, Mwangi said that he was working with the county government to clear all drainage routes in his ward.

"As at now, we have already dug canals in Ngoingwa, Kiandutu and Athena that will significantly reduce flooding,” he said.
