[Photo|PSCU]President Uhuru Kenyatta will on Tuesday September 12, 2017 address a joint sitting of the newly elected 12th Parliament at 2:30pm. Article 132 1 (a) of the Constitution requires the President to address the opening of each newly elected Parliament. Consequently the two Speakers Justin Muturi (National Assembly) and Ken Lusaka (Senate Assembly) have notified all Members of Parliament that the official opening of the 12th Parliament will be held at the National Assembly Chamber main Parliament Buildings in Nairobi as from 2:30pm. This is in pursuant to provisions of the Standing order 22(2) of the National assembly and Standing Order 22(2) of the Senate. In a notice, Friday, Parliament communications department, said guests invited to attend would receive invitations cards for the event.However, Opposition's NASA MPs have threatened to boycott the session, saying Uhuru has no constitutional powers to address the Houses, since his re-election was nullified by the court.Kajiado Central MP Elijah Memusi affirmed during a campaign in Narok, Saturday, that NASA members would boycott.
