President Uhuru Kenyatta has signed the Security Bill 2014 into law, defending it as one Kenya badly needs to improve security.
The Bill, which has elicited a lot of controversy in recent times was hurriedly passed by parliament Thursday and the president wasted no time in assenting to it Friday.
“It is a highly timely and much needed law and one that will give the government the requisite power to fight agents of insecurity," Kenyatta said.
He defended the Bill in his speech on Friday, calling it vital in safeguarding the interests of Kenyans.
The President added that there was necessity in the law, which will deal with different facets of insecurity.
“The law will help in dealing with both local and international insecurity, cybercrime and poaching,” he added.
The law is set to be contested in court by members of the Cord coalition who believe that it is unconstitutional and out of line with the constitution.
