President Uhuru Kenyatta reportedly switched off his official phone number during Jubilee Party primaries to avoid ‘persistent’ pressure from his close allies who were competing in various seats.

Jubilee party held primaries last week with a number of President’s close friends losing in the nominations that are likely to reflect in August elections.

With his rival ODM party rocked with hundreds of serious nomination anomalies, Uhuru’s party has since taken credit despite a bad start in its first day of nominations that were subsequently cancelled.

“I have talked to Raila Odinga and I have expressed my concerns in the manner in which ODM elections were held,” said COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli on Friday.

“Uhuru may not be my favourite but I really like the way his party held nominations. He literally switched off his phone and skipped calls from his close friends who could have piled pressure on him.”

Among Uhuru’s notable friends who lost include William Kabogo (Kiambu), Jamleck Kamau and Esther Murugu among others.

On the contrary, Odinga’s ODM is rocked in a major crisis with a number of winners having their certificates issued to losers of polls.
