Kenyatta University has been closed indefinitely.
Students at the institution were ordered to leave on Friday morning.
The closure comes following riots on Thursday night where students at the main campus burnt the old admission block in an alleged protest over the newly elected student leaders.
Reports indicate that the students did not want the new leaders of the Kenyatta University Students Union (Kusu) elected on Tuesday.
They accused the new office of being sponsored into power by the university management and that they therefore could not represent the student interests well.
"We also did not want to sit for the exams that had been scheduled to start next week Monday because we felt we were not ready because most of the lecturers have been away due to the ongoing strike," said another student quoted by Nation.
The rioting students have come up with what they term “irreducible minimums” that must be met by the university management.
These include a complete overhaul of the university’s top management, a repeal of the University Amendment Act 2016 to abolish the electoral college in student union elections, abolishing of the supplementary exam fee among others.
