After serving for 10 years as Kenyatta University Vice Chancellor, Prof Olive Mugenda has announced she will retire on Friday.
Prof Mugenda made the announcement on Tuesday during a ground-breaking ceremony for the International Language and Culture Centre at the Kenyatta University main campus.
She was first appointed Vice Chancellor in 2007 and reappointed by former president Mwai Kibaki in 2012 for another five-year term.
The professor made history when she became the first woman to be appointed VC of a public university in Kenya.
Prof Mugenda has seen KU house the largest number of students within the university in Kenya and has the largest number of disciplines for learners to choose from.
The institution has also seen its infrastructure and research profile grow during her tenure.
