President Uhuru Kenyatta has been urged to intervene in the teachers’ strike that is ongoing.
Kiambu women representative Ann Nyokabi said that President Kenyatta must now intervene to end the stalemate between teachers and the government.
Speaking at the Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology during an evaluation of last year’s KCPE results on Thursday, Nyokabi said students are suffering as a result of the strike.
Nyokabi said the strike will affect the running of the first term if nothing is done on time.
“I want to ask the president to intervene over the teachers strike to enable teachers resume teaching,” she said.
Nyobaki, however, took issue with the teachers, saying the strike’s timing was ill-advised.
Nyokabi said that though teachers have the right to engage in strikes, they should also consider the fate of students.
On the same note, Nyokabi asked the county government to concentrate on boosting education standards.
She said education remains the key to many issues facing the society and that the government should take it seriously.
