President Uhuru Kenyatta has warned leaders against inciting Kenyans as the country prepares for August’s general elections.
Speaking during his voter registration sensitization tour, Kenyatta accused the opposition led by Raila Odinga of propagating unsubstantiated claims, which might harm the country.
This comes after Odinga claimed that the government is already rigging elections, accusing National Intelligence Service of registering foreginers to participate in the August polls.
“Who wants to steal from him? Why would we want to steal from him? Kenya needs unity, democracy, policies in order to reach the heights that we want as a nation,” said Kenyatta.
The president has been on voter hunt tour in the last week, visiting parts of Central, Samburu, and Garissa.
He is expected to tour Marsabit and Tharaka Nithi, as he convinces his supporters to register as voters.
Leaders from both the divide have been crisscrossing the country for the same, with the opposition retracting to their home turf to ensure every eligible Kenyan is registered.
According to the IEBC, the past week’s registration did not meet their target of 1.4 million, after managing slightly over 800,000 new voters.
The exercise is on its second week, and will run to February 14.
