President Uhuru Kenyatta has indicated that he is willing to engage all Kenyans including the opposition in focusing on economic transformation.
Speaking on Tuesday during the Jamhuri Day celebrations at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani, Kenyatta said it is time to start working on building the nation.
“It will attract cynics and pessimists; it will attract haters of the country who want to imprison us in a vicious cycle of empty politics and talk. The big shift cannot and will not be achieved by me and Jubilee alone; it will need all of us,” said the President.
His remarks come at a time when the country is limping from a divisive election period, which has left the country divided along party and tribal lines.
The opposition, led by NASA leader Raila Odinga has over the last few weeks insisted they will go on to announce their president, but shelved their plans on Sunday to a later date.
They, NASA, have maintained that they do not recognize President Kenyatta’s win, and will continue pushing for constitutional and electoral reforms.
Kenyatta won the October 26 polls in which Odinga withdrew, and the Supreme Court upheld his win two weeks later.
There have been calls for dialogue between the two leaders, with religious leaders and foreign envoys leading the calls.
