Chaos marred President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Day-2 tour in Gusii region with a group of youths believed to be supporting opposition leader Raila Odinga blocking a section of Kenyatta’s motorcade.
Earlier in Nyanturago, Kenyatta witnessed rowdy youths burning Jubilee Party T-shirts and chanting pro-opposition slogans.
But the events turned from bad to worse after the Head of State addressed a fairly large crowd in Gusii stadium.
Barely minutes after President Kenyatta left Gusii stadium, thousands of OD youths rocked in Kisii town chanting pro-NASA slogans and were heard accusing Jubilee leadership of launching ‘mediocre’ projects in the region.
“This is a NASA zone and they must know that. We are not worthy such mediocre projects. He should tell us about our tea and coffee which is depreciating and not launching classroom,” said Duke Mokua, ODM supporters.
However, police managed to repulse the crowd which had paralyzed business in the Central Business District for close to two hours.
President Uhuru had earlier warned opposition leaders against inciting Kenyans against each other adding that the government will punish the perpetrators.
“We must have courtesy and not quarrel all times. We need a break from leaders who are out to divide Kenyans. As government, we cannot allow that,” he said.
During his two days visit to Gusii, a region that has been identified as tossup by Jubilee strategist, Kenyatta was given a wide berth by ODM leaders among them Governors John Nyagarama (Nyamira) and James Ongwae (Kisii).
Fortunately, the ugly chaos broke out few minutes after the Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto had left Kisii town.
